I hosted a festive and fun gathering the next day after Christmas to celebrate life and friendship with my closest friends from college. We collectively called ourselves, Kabakabs. (I know it’s a terrible name.) But all of the fun and crazy memories of my college years were with them - Mharj, Hazel, Avril, Ayen, Sam, Karen, Ruvi and the only boy in the group, Aj.
It's not often that we get to sit around in a table to have a dinner and enjoy each other's company because let's face it, work, family and sometimes love life get in the way. But because I always miss this set of people, I made sure that we still get to hang out with each other despite our busy lives. After the holiday, we planned to see each other and asked everyone to commit attending the said gathering for old times' sake.
It was a sit-down intimate wine and barbecue dinner night. We feasted on pasta, barbeque, grilled chicken, and enjoyed the mango float for dessert. Each of us brought something to share together. Ruvi and I did the set-up. It was held on a farm, whose owner is Avril's friend. Avril brought some drinks, AJ came in with wine and cheese, Hazel with chocolates and some more wine, while Mharj surprised us with custom-made cupcakes. Sam, Karen were not able to make it. Ayen too, but she sent some food for us to enjoy.
We gave our gifts to one another after our dinner and played this card game called Never Had I Ever. I learned a lot of new things about these folks. It was the most fun part of the evening though. We also had some strolling down memory lane, about college days, our college crushes, professors, our embarrassing moments back then and basically catching up.
I'm always thankful to these amazing friends that I have been blessed to meet at Ateneo in 2006. I know they would be by my side lifelong. Our countless memories together of the good old days will always be there to laugh at and remember every chance we get to see each other.
